Getting It All Done

Posted by: JennyB on: October 29, 2009

Just a mommy moment.

I tend to berate myself when I can’t get it all done. Life with children does not always run smoothly along a nice and tidy schedule. No. On the contrary, there are squabbles, boo boos, uh-ohs, and so many other things that just can’t be helped.

Our children are not robots and we are not robots. Things are in constant change with one incident affecting everything else. Time gets thrown off. Moms cannot expect to keep to a schedule if we have our priorities in order. Sometimes the most important thing in the world is to sit and hold your little one while reading a book.

Sometimes for the sake of our own sanity and our childrens happiness we must throw the schedule out the window and go for a walk. Examine every tree along the way, play on a play ground, run through the park’s sprinklers and imagine ourselves on a pioneering adventure on the way home.

I know the dishes need to be washed, there is wet laundry in the washer, you can’t walk through the room without stepping on barbie or a dinosaur, and you still need to make that important phone call. Take a deep breath. In the long run these things are not that important and your children won’t remember them. But they will remember you taking them for an adventure walk. They will remember “you were fun mom.”

That is what matters. Do what you can, but by all means don’t try to get it all done. It’s not worth it. And I know. I love checking things off a list. Unfortunately on those days after the children are in bed, even though I have accomplished a ton, I have missed out on life. On days when I have spent time on with my children and have laughed and hugged them, I feel fulfilled. This is what life is really all about.

Is Organized Homeschool Flexible?

Posted by: JennyB on: October 27, 2009

Just a mommy moment.

Flexible Organized Homeschooling. That sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? Its not. Every year I go over what my children have learned the previous year and then set goals for what they need to learn this year. I use a book called Home Learning Year by Year by Rebecca Rupp.

Then I sit back and relax. Okay, that is easier said than done. Do moms ever really relax?

I use many resources and different types of curriculum in teaching my children. The point is we never stop learning. We live life and then we fit our education in and around it. I have friends that are unschoolers. If only I could be that relaxed, LOL.  By being loosely organized with educational goals for the year, then I know I have the year to complete them. Some weeks we get a lot done and surprise ourselves. Those weeks make up for the times when we have illness or lots of activities and fieldtrips.

No matter what, the most important thing is that we are homeschooling. My children are with me and they are learning about life in environments and situations that I can watch. This way I’m right there when they have questions or are dealing with unfamiliar dilemmas. We have numerous on the spot discussions and instant learning moments. These are probably the lessons that they will always remember. Not the ones that they memorized for a test.

Vaccination Poll

Are you informed about vaccinations? Mark all answers that apply.

Let’s Talk Vaccinations

Posted by: JennyB on: October 25, 2009

Just a moment.

I really don’t get vaccinations. I never have. I know some of you will be boiling after you read this. But I also know some of you will be secretly nodding your heads.

Vaccinations have been touted to be one of Medicines Mondern Marvels. Parents are made to feel that they are putting their children in jeopardy if they don’t vaccinate. This is a shame.

What parent honestly wants to inject POISONS in their children. And infants, my goodness!

Yes, vaccines contain poisons. Are parents really informed about them? Did you know that not only are the viruses in the vaccines dangerous to you but that they are preserved in known carcinogens (cancer causing agents?)

Not just parents, but everyone is blindly running to the clinics to try to get the Swine Flu vaccination. I just read in the paper today that it was declared a national emergency because 1000 people have died in the U.S.

Okay, let’s put this into perspective. I saw some statistics on my state and it said approximately 72 people die from the regular flu season every year. Well if we were to assume that the other 50 states have a similar rate, if I’m correct that is about 3600 deaths annually.

Now let’s discuss something else. Why in the world would we give a live virus to the “most vulnerable?”  The officials are saying that the swine flu vaccine is being given to the most vulnerable. I’m saying that is crazy! Since they are the most vulnerable then they are also the most vulnerable to have adverse reactions to it!

Lets think about this people. Do not follow everyone else to the slaughter house. Run!

If you want facts and true informed consent please visit www.NVIC.org   This  is the National Vaccine Information Center based in Washington D.C. They advocate informed consent. Check out their website to get all the facts.

P.S. If you still feel afraid not to get vaccinated, find a naturopathic doctor. They offer natural vaccine alternatives. These are safe and non-toxic.

Wool Sock Treatment for colds and flu

Posted by: JennyB on: October 24, 2009

Just a moment.

I have a little one that is under the weather.  I know this may sound crazy but my naturopathic medical doctor recommends it and a friend of mine said her naturopathic doctor recommended it.

My child was running a 103 temp.  last night with a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and a headache. I wet her socks, rang them out as much as I could and then put them in the freezer for 30 to 45 min.

When I took them out they were a bit crunchy so I worked them with my hands before placing them on her feet. Yes she complained of the coldness but after I placed the wool socks over her wet cold socks, it tolerable in just a few minutes.

Now I’m not giving medical advice here, this info. is  for entertainment purposes only! But she felt much better this morning. No fever, slight sore throat, decreased stuffiness.  Crazy, I know.

It just goes to show that moms will do anything to make there children feel better:)

Hello world!

Posted by: JennyB on: October 24, 2009

I’m a mommy. I know how rewarding being a mother is but I also know how hard it is.  It’s like a roller coaster ride that never ends.  It’s fun but sometimes it makes you a little queasy.

They say that if you help others while you are in the midst of the same situations then you will find that you make it through the rough waters yourself without realizing how great the struggle was.

So now you know that my goal may be slightly selfish. Yes I am in the middle of the mommy years. I am probably not even at the top of the roller coaster ride yet.  BUT… I have learned a great deal and would love to share it with all the moms that would care to listen.

I hope to give you laughs, health tips (tried and true), homeschooling advice, and a shoulder to cry on  should you need it.  Now pull up a chair at my kitchen table and have a cup of tea with me while the children are playing. Remember if they get too quiet you’d better go check and see what they are getting into:)
